"The play is about themes close to my heart, things I touch on in my track The Fear, about the really damaging cult of beauty among young girls," Allen told The Sun.

"They want me to play the lead, which is amazing and terrifying. There's a lady from RADA coming round to my house to train me up a bit.

"I'm always up for a new challenge."

Reasons to Be Pretty (usually written lower case style as reasons to be pretty) was a success on Broadway last year and this, gaining Tony award nominations.

Written by acclaimed film director Neil LaBute (In the Company of Men, Nurse Betty, The Whicker Man), it features a group of teenagers who are bored with life and unhappy with the way they look.

It's the third part of a trilogy covering similar themes. The first two parts were Shape of Things and Fat Pigs.

reasons to be pretty is set to open in 2010, venue yet to be confirmed.
