Fictitious biopic of '30s jazz luminary Emmet Ray, the self-confessed "second greatest jazz guitarist in the world", whose love of women and gambling eventually proved to be his undoing. The story is related as a series of flashbacks, stemming from evidence given by a host of jazz aficionados and experts, including his doomed affair with mute Hattie who loved him with all of her heart but was ultimately rejected by him, his flirtation with ambitious writer Blanche, and his possible meeting with the great Django Reinhardt.
