Androgynous nine-year-old Laure moves into a suburb of Paris with her heavily pregnant mother, father and younger sister, Jeanne. A daddy's girl since birth, Laure introduces herself to the local kids as Michael and they immediately accept the newcomer as a boy. Local girl Lisa is drawn to Michael and tells him sweetly that he's not like the other boys. As Michael becomes integral to neighbourhood life, Laure must go to ever greater lengths to conceal her true gender.
