Mick Jagger Puts the Boot into Boris Johnson

BORIS JOHNSON has been snubbed by Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones legend refusing to become a "political football" at the feet of the London Mayor.

At a conference for business leaders in Davos, Switzerland, Johnson is hosting an event called the Great British Tea Party, dedicated to putting a positive gloss on British business in the face of today's dire economic statistics, which showed the economy to be in another slump.

The London Mayor and Prime Minister David Cameron – also in Davos - were quoted as being "tickled pink" when they persuaded Jagger to turn up, seeing the veteran rocker's attendance as a PR coup for the Tory Party.

But the Get off of My Cloud singer soon smelled a partisan rat.

"I now find myself being used as a political football and there has been a lot of comment about my political allegiances which are inaccurate," said Jagger.

"During my career I have always eschewed party politics and came to Davos as a guest, as I thought it would be stimulating. I have always been interested in economics and world events.

"I think it's best I decline the invitation and curtail my visit."

In no time at all, Johnson had also distanced himself from his own event.

"The mayor was asked if his name could be put on the invitation in order to attract the best crowd," claimed a Johnson spokesperson.

... but even the quote from Johnson's spokesperson shows that it was a "Boris Johnson event" of some sort.

Don't think there was another headline, or story slant, the same, as most news outlets went with the Jagger v. Cameron/Tories-in-general angle.

"Mad[e] up lines"? Not sure what you mean there? If you mean lies, then specify, or people will think you are the one making things up.
