Robin Williams mocks Charles' ears

- But he'll be 'respectful' at Prince's 60th birthday gig

Friday, 7th November 2008

Robin Williams would love to mock Prince Charles' sizeable ears at his 60th birthday celebrations.

The US comic - who will appear in a production of We Are Most Amused, a variety show to mark Charles' landmark birthday on November 12 - believes times have changed since he last performed in front of the prince, and he will be allowed to tease the future king in a polite manner.

He explained to The Daily Mail: "The last time part of the drill then was you weren't allowed to address him or look at him. I think it has changed now. I feel like saying, 'With those ears, you could hear things outside the walls!'

"Seriously though, I will be respectful and funny. You can do both at once."

The comic has taken part in several royal galas in the past - he performed a routine via satellite for Charles' 50th birthday where he joked: "You're 50 - and that's seven in corgi years."

Robin - who is returning to the UK stage for the first time in 25 years for the show - will be joined on the billing by British comic stars John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson.

The Mrs. Doubtfire star admits stand-up comedians can go too far sometimes, adding: "Sometimes comedy will cross over the edge. If it gets more and more outrageous, what will people do? How far will it go?"

The event, at New Wimbledon Theatre, will be attended by Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

We Are Most Amused will donate money from ticket sales to the Prince's Trust.
